GPS Maze Australia Update

Hopefully by now you’ve heard the aMAZEing news that a GPS Adventure Exhibit is coming to Australia for the first time ever. In fact it’s the first time an adventure maze has ever made an appearance in the southern hemisphere! It’s free to attend at The Wangaratta Event 2021. Make sure you let us know if you are coming to the MEGA and the MAZE!

We have been heartened by the response for people to come on board as a Foundation Friend of the Maze (FFOTM) supporter. Without your help the Maze would not be going ahead. Thanks a million! FFOTM would have received an email (Update #1) that they need to respond to. If you haven’t responded please check your emails and do so quickly!

We still have a room for a few more Foundation Friend of the Maze members. This opportunity closes on Sunday August 8th so if you are keen to become a FFOTM join soon!

We are also excited to show you the merchandise that will be available at the Maze. This includes some aMAZEing coins, a sling bag, a t-shirt and a pen & sticker. These items are all available for purchase in the Geocaching Victoria store.

The coins are currently on a pre-order special for $30 (usually $35) and come in two colours – orange and grey and the maze is 3D!

Or maybe coins aren’t your thing. Maybe you need a funky new bag to store all your geocaching goodies in?

Head to the website to view and purchase all merchandise items.

As the committee continues to work behind the scenes we would love to hear from people who have a great geocaching picture or story that we might be able to include in the Maze. Also any historical item you might like to donate? If you have something to contribute please email geocachingvic@gmail.com

Events like this are only possible because of our sponsors. We thank our Foundation Friends of the Maze, our friends at Geocaching Victoria IncGeostuff, Exponential Digital Marketing and Geocaching HQ for their support.

Ballarat GeoTour Update

Gosh time flies when you are having fun! As you know the Ballarat GeoTour launched in February. The first 3 weeks saw a huge flurry of activity with the 25 caches being found over 1000 times. Such an incredible response from the geocaching community and locals.

A few weeks back we were excited to have our sponsors VicHealth visit. We enjoyed teaching them about geocaching and they were very excited to find one. This GeoTour was made possible after receiving a grant from VicHealth as part of their Reimagining Health grants in 2020. We thank them for their support as without their help we could not have released a GeoTour.

Geocaching Victoria Inc. are also selling geocoins related to the Ballarat GeoTour. These have arrived in Australia (yah) and you can purchase a Standard Coin, a 10 Finds Coin and a Completed GeoTour Coin from the Geocaching Victoria Store. These coins (and other GVI goodies) will also be available to purchase at events.

Speaking of events our third event is scheduled for this Saturday at 3:30pm. You can find the details here. And congratulations to McAdies for winning the special prize at Event #2 – maybe you will win a prize at Event #3? And if you like events you are in luck. There is a breakfast event on Saturday as well as a CITO so why not make a day (or weekend) of it?

Ballarat GeoTour LAUNCHED!

The Ballarat GeoTour official launched in a hot tin shed (COVID compliant) on February 20th 2021. There was an amazing turnout with over 100 people attending on the day –  Ballarat GeoTour – LAUNCH Event.

The 25 GeoTour caches were released during the event and people soon scarpered! You can see the Official Ballarat GeoTour page HERE! This website allows you to download a GPX file of the GeoTour. Our launch was also just the first event! Event 2 is on Sunday March 28th at 10am whilst Event 3 is on Saturday May 1st at 3:30pm.

Geocaching Victoria Inc. are also selling geocoins related to the Ballarat GeoTour. These will arrive in Australia very soon. You can purchase a Standard Coin, a 10 Finds Coin and a Completed GeoTour Coin from the Geocaching Victoria Store.

There are some very special limited edition coins that can be won too. Come to an event; finish the GeoTour or win randomly (eg. someone won by tuning in to the Geocaching Downunder Podcast where we talked about the GeoTour). The winner of the Limited Edition Coin from the launch event is Jenfuzzled – CONGRATULATIONS!

So pack your back and hit the roads making Ballarat your next “must visit” destination. Remember, Ballarat is the only GeoTour available in Australia so come along for something unique!

This GeoTour was made possible after receiving a grant from VicHealth as part of their Reimagining Health grants in 2020. We thank them for their support as without their help we could not have released a GeoTour.

Coming Soon! Ballarat GeoTour

We know that 2020 was a tough year for Victorians. In the background Geocaching Victoria Inc. have been working hard and are excited to announce that they have been awarded a Reimaging Health Grant through VicHealth which will result in the formation of a GeoTour in the beautiful town of Ballarat. Our launch event GC94R8W has just been published – we hope you can make it! More info to come soon about the GeoTour including how you can get your hands on shiny things like Geo Coins!

Isolation Competition Winner Announced

Firstly apologies for the delay in announcing the winner of this competition – that thing called LIFE just got in the way.

We were blown away by people’s creativity and by their determination to get out a give something new a go! Well done to everyone who played along and had a bit of fun. Congratulations to Jason Grover who sent in some AMAZING creations each week. Your “Llama” was incredible and has taken out the top prize!

There are some others we would love to congratulate too. Well done to Ben Appleford for his “Wizard”. Stay tuned for a small prize heading your way too!

And as this is a geocaching group we need to mention the fabulous creation by Michelle Dunn. Her “TFTC” art really resonated with fellow cachers. Well done – look out for a small prize coming your way too!
