Geocaching Events – COVID Safe Plan

Geocaching Victoria Inc – COVID Safe plan for geocaching events.

Attendance: Please, do not attend our events if any of the following apply:

  • if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and not recovered.
  • If you have been in close contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • If you have recently been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting your results
  • If you have flu like symptoms (fever, coughing, sore throat or shortness of breath)
  • If you have recently travelled from a known COVID-19 hotspot
  • If you have been directed to quarantine by the Victorian DHHS.

Location: Events are to be held at locations away from where it is expected larger crowds may gather anyway (playgrounds, shopping centres, popular beaches etc).

Face Masks: The current rules around facemasks requires that all people from different households that gather where social distancing is difficult are required to wear facemasks unless they are exempt.  This will be the case for all people attending events held by Geocaching Victoria.  Exemptions include those under 12 years old and those who have a medical exemption.  This means you should wear a mask and wear it correctly.

Social Distancing: Whilst wearing face masks is mandatory at these events (except for those with a valid exemption), we do still encourage you to practice social distancing whilst at these events.  This means staying at least 1.5 meters apart and to avoid close physical contact (ie hugging, handshakes etc).  We understand that this is difficult and we all look forward to the day that this is not required.

Log Book: To avoid communal touch surfaces, log books will not be available at events held by Geocaching Victoria.  Instead, we have developed a QR system through guest-track where attendees are required to scan a QR code with their smart phone and enter in their details, similar to what is being done at construction sites and restaurants currently.  If you don’t have a smartphone, or are unable to scan the QR code, please see the event host who will help you with this, or find a friend who can scan it for you and enter your details on your behalf.

Hand Sanitizer:  Hand sanitizer will be provided at all Geocaching Victoria events.  We encourage the use of this when you arrive and when you leave, at the very least.  Also use of sanitizer after touching communal surfaces (table tops, hand rails etc) is encouraged.

Crowd Numbers: While every effort has gone in to hosting events that will not see larger crowds attend, there are still restrictions in Victoria regarding how many people are allowed to congregate in one place outside.  This is the law and it must be followed.  If the event attendee numbers get too high, the event host will ask the attendees to split into smaller groups and for one group to move to another location.  Please listen to your event host if this happens and follow their directions.
