It has been too long since our Geocaching Community has come together to celebrate a Mega event in Victoria, but finally the weekend is upon us and it is sure to be one that creates some special memories. Below is some information that will help you get the most of your time with us in Wangaratta.
There will be an official Opening Ceremony being held on the Saturday morning at 8am. Some short speeches and a chance to let the Wangaratta Council, as well as our other sponsors, know how much we appreciate them helping us put this whole event on. The opening ceremony will be held out the front of the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatics Centre.
Registration & Merchandise Collection
The Registration Desks, Log book, Merchandise Pick up and stalls will be open between Saturday 9am and 4pm and Sunday 9am and 2:30pm. These will all be located inside the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatics Centre, on the basketball courts. This is where you go to pick up all the merchandise that you’ve prepurchased from Geocaching Victoria (if you haven’t purchased any merchandise, you can head over to our store and have a look around). There will be plenty of stalls, like Geostuff, where you can purchase all your geocaching needs. The log book will be here aswell, which you can sign to prove that you’ve attended the MEGA. Also here will be the registration desk where, if you have logged a “Will Attend” for the MEGA, you will be able to pick up your event bag. If you haven’t logged a “Will Attend”, but would like to grab an event bag, simply follow this link to log your “Will Attend”.
Camping is available from Friday afternoon, but please remember that you need to check in before 8pm on Friday. Once you’ve set your camp spot up, you have it until Sunday afternoon, but you will need to be pack up by 3pm on the Sunday afternoon. If you haven’t done already, you can book your camp site. There are still spots available and for further information, please check out this link.
The Wangaratta MEGA Event promises to be a be a fun packed weekend and a great opportunity to catch up with old geocaching friends and making new ones. This year we have decided to try something a little different and instead of our usual information sessions, we have created a program schedule to help you plan all the events you wish to attend and maximize your chance of attending as many of the events as possible. Over the past few years, we have all missed many events and opportunities to socialize, so we have worked hard to develop a full program to maximize the chance for our geocaching community to connect.
Below is a schedule of the Mega weekend.
There will be a pathtag trading session at 11am on both the Saturday and the Sunday morning, held at the basketball courts in the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatics Centre. This is a chance for all those people who purchased the trading sets of pathtags to meet up and fulfill their full sets. Or bring along some personal pathtags and trade with others too.
The official closing ceremony will be held at 1pm on Sunday. This will be a chance to reflect on everything that’s happened over the weekend and also look forward to other upcoming MEGA events. This event will be held out the front of the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatics Centre.
