If you would like to have your say as to who the new Trailwalker Mascott will be, fill in the form HERE

There will be a random draw from all entries who will win an extremely rare 2018 “Night time Walker” Geocoin.

Parkville Feedback and Resignations

Parkville Event Feedback

With the Parkville Event done and dusted, we would like to get some feedback from the community as to what was good, what wasn’t and where can we improve. If you could fill in your feedback for each team, it would be much appreciated. As an added incentive, we will be doing a lucky draw among the responses and the winner will receive a Parkville Event Unobtanium coin. Feedback closes midnight, Sunday 16th December 2018.

Resignations & Nominations

Geocaching Victoria would like to announce that Day Gowland (day1976) has announced his resignation following the Parkville Mega Event. Day has been a big part of the Geocaching Victoria Committee since 2014 and it will be sad to see him leave. We would like to thank Day for all his hard work over the years and wish him well for his future projects.

Here is some final words from Day:

I would like to formally announce that following the finish of the Parkville MEGA, I have resigned from the Geocaching Victoria Inc committee.  I have been a committee member since its inception in 2014, and I am immensely proud of how far the incorporation has come since then.  Four years ago, there hadn’t even been a MEGA event in the state of Victoria, and at the time it looked like there may never be one. But, in just that short time, we have now held more MEGA events than any other state in Australia, with further still planned.

But more than just the MEGAs, I’m pleased to have been involved with so many of the other things that Geocaching Victoria does as well, and I am sure will continue to do.  Such as their collaboration with Parks Vic to hold CITOs, their involvement with the Oxfam Trailwalker every year, the 15 years of events celebration, their Australia Day celebration and all the wonderful other events that they have hosted over the years in every corner of the state of Victoria, throughout all of Australia and even overseas.

While it hasn’t always been smooth sailing, and over the years and I am sure I have ruffled some feathers here and there, I have always tried to make decisions that have best suited Geocaching Victoria and its key mission, “to promote the past-time of geocaching in the state of Victoria”. I am happy to say that I can walk away from this committee and continue as good friends with all those who remain.

Personally, I am looking forward now to spending some time finding caches again, and perhaps hiding a few new ones too.  I sincerely wish the St Arnaud organizing committee the best of luck on what I know will be a magnificent MEGA event, and I am confident that the future of Geocaching Victoria is in more than capable hands with those who remain on the Geocaching Victoria committee.

I look forward to seeing you all at events, out on the trails and maybe at a few FTFs.

Regards

Day (day1976)

We would like to also announce the resignation of Peter Taurins due to personal reasons. Again, we wish Peter well.

As a result of these resignations, the committee at Geocaching Victoria is looking for two new committee members and will be taking nominations via the Google form HERE. Nominations will be open until Wednesday 12th December 2018.

Thank You

As per usual, we would like to thank our Major Sponsors. Without their ongoing support, big events like this would not be able to take place.

Our 2018 sponsors include Geocaching.com, Cachly, Pathtags.com, Caching Supplies, Clear Waters Event Queanbean Easter 2019, City of Melbourne, Bunnings, McDonalds, Freddy’s Bike Tours, City West Waters, Sssafe and of course it goes without saying, The future attendees of The Parkville Event.

Saturday Night BBQ and Accommodation

Saturday Night BBQ & Festivities

The Saturday Night BBQ will be a little different this year. We will be providing a smoked beef and Gravy roll free to those that have logged a “Will Attend” on both the Saturday Night BBQ event and of course the Parkville Mega Event. This is important so we know numbers for catering.

Every attendee will be given a wrist band. That wrist band will entitle you to ONE free beef and gravy roll, sponsored by Geocaching Victoria. Aside from this, our Geocaching Victoria Oxfam Teams will be running a fundraising BBQ for sausages and onions in bread and will also have drinks on sale. These will be $2.50 per sausage and $2 per drink. The Oxfam teams will have donation boxes available on the night, so bring along your appetite and your spare change.

We have four teams of 4 people competing in the 2019 Oxfam Trailwalker in March, walking 100km from Emerald, meandering through the densely forested Dandenong Ranges to Lilydale and then following a long and winding picturesque Yarra Trail, through to Fairfield.

And most importantly don’t forget to BYO Chair on Saturday night so you can sit back and enjoy watching the TREASURE MOVIE in comfort!

To those Vegetarians, Vegans or other dietary requirements, sorry but you will need to provide your own dinners as we simply don’t have the resources to supply separate meals for you.

Accommodation…

Are you staying at Urban camp during the Mega? Don’t forget a couple of key items you will need…

  1. A sleeping Bag, doona or sheets.
  2. Pillow case (pillows are provided).
  3. Towels

If you are staying at Urban Camp, you can check in from 3pm on Friday 16th November.

Please note that Urban Camp does not permit the use of aerosols anywhere in the building and this includes deodorants. This is because of their very sensitive smoke detectors which trigger the fire alarm. If the fire alarm goes off this automatically triggers a call out and you will be billed the $2000 call out fee. So just bring roll on, or go outside.

Also please note, their is no cooking facilities at Urban Camp. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants close by. Food in the form of a sausage sizzle will be available all day Saturday and Sunday at the MEGA site. There is an event nearby at the local Bowls Club on the Friday night and there is a free BBQ at the MEGA site on the Saturday night. There will also be a discount voucher in the registration bags for the two local McDonalds as well.
