GVI Oxfam Second Fundraiser

The second fundraiser is a TRIVIA NIGHT

This will be held on March 22nd

Upper Ferntree Gully Cricket Club
Kings Reserve
Upper Ferntree Gully

Enter via Acacia Road or Willow Road.

 

This is an all ages DRY event due to licensing restrictions.

BYO food/snacks and non- alcoholic drinks

Entry fees are $150 per team of up to 8 people.

If you don’t have a team or only have part of a team, pay a $20 entry fee each and turn up on the night. We’ll mix and match a team together.

We have an amazing, and experienced trivia host lined up for your viewing pleasure.

  • Scriptwriter.
  • Trivia Host.

Louise comes to us with an impressive CV, and I’m sure she will provide us with a fun and entertaining night.

There will be prizes and of course some great little auctions on the night. Bring along your sense of humour, your trivia brain and a little coin to bid on the auctions.

To allow us to set up the room, entry fees can be paid in advance to the GVI shop. GVI will divvy up the profits between the four teams after the event

Fundraising for the GVI Oxfam Teams

A message from members of the GVI Oxfam Teams on their latest fundraising exploits.  

Karen, Adriaan and Donna have been busily working behind-the-scenes to organise some fundraisers, that will be fun for us all. 

The first fundraiser is a TREASURE HUNT

The treasure hunt is being held at Brimbank park on March 2.

The treasure hunt has a $10 entry fee per person/team. Entry fees can be paid direct to an Oxfam team, or to GVI who will divvy up the profits between the four teams.

Mention treasure hunt with your donations direct to Oxfam teams so we can track payments. 

This is being held a few hours before a CITO for GVI. All of the treasure that you will collect on the day will have an undisclosed random number of points assigned to it and once the points are added up the winners will receive prizes. 

The great part about this is that the treasure that you collect will also form the first pile of rubbish for the CITO.  So you can come for the treasure hunt and stay for the CITO or just be at either one it’s up to you, but we would definitely love to see you for both.

Bring gloves. We should have enough hessian bags to go around and we have some grabber tools too. There will also be a fundraising sausage sizzle prior to the official CITO event  with sausages in bread and a small selection of drinks available for purchase

New GVI Committee Members

What an amazing time we’ve had the past few weeks with nominations for two committee positions and the subsequent voting.

With a record SIX confirmed nominations, including a big range of people, both in personality and caching style, the current committee knew we’d have some fun when it came to voting. We just didn’t realise the magnitude. 

Previous committee nominations had yielded few nominations, and the highest number of voters being around 70. In other voting areas, we’d had been about 95 voters for our change of name.

Todays vote had an amazing 162 voters, and we cannot thank you all enough for getting involved. Some have asked about our voting practices, and we’re happy to report that we use preference voting. Now please don’t ask me to explain that process, because it’s quite complicated, but yields a very fair result based on the vote numbers you’ve all supplied. I can tell you that the vote counter got to the fourth round of preferences before there were three clear leaders. Two for the positions, and one back up, just in case.

I know I’ve waffled a bit, and all you really want to know is who are the new committee members!!

GVI would like to welcome Gemma Siemensma and Steve Hanberry to the Committee. We look forward to them joining our little team, and working their butts off for all of you.

Before I go, I’d like to thank Philipp Hammes, Mark Barnes, Sarah Cameron and Donna Moore for accepting their nominations, and we hope to be able to work with them in the future.

Friends of Parks Vic

Geocaching Victoria Incorporated is very excited to announce that we are now officially affiliated with Parks Vic.

In coming months, we will undergo some information sessions with their rangers that will enable us to set up and run CITO events without having to obtain prior authorisation. Something that usually needs to be organised months in advance, as it requires one of their rangers to be present. Once everything is finalised, we will have members who will be trained in the safety briefings, and they will act as de facto rangers for us.

Parks Vic requires that we all be registered on their website, linked to GV’s group. They are aware that registered numbers don’t usually equate to numbers on the day, so registering does not obligate you to attend anything we set up.

So, whether you’re a prolific CITO attendee, only go to one a year (around mega time), or haven’t attended one yet, but would like to in the future, please take a few minutes to register.

GVI – PARKS VIC REGISTRATION

Registration is fairly straight forward. You will need to confirm your email address. Once registered, go to Volunteer – Search groups and type Geocaching into the filter. Geocaching Victoria will appear. At the end of the line, use the little drop down arrow to join GV group.

Once this is running at full speed, all of our Parks Vic CITO activities will be listed on their website, as well as an official CITO event page.

The Committee look forward to seeing a long list of registrations and can’t wait to see you at a CITO soon!

The St Arnaud Event – January 2019 update

Wow – it’s now 2019 and we are in full planning mode for The St Arnaud Event 2019 (log your will attend here). Lots has been happening so let’s get to some news…

Pathtags

The official St Arnaud Event Pathtags are now available to pre-order. Don’t they look amazing? Visit the Geocaching Victoria store to purchase the below St Arnaud pathtags which can be collected at the MEGA event. Many thanks to Ozglory Designs for designing these tags for us. People have inquired about using the border on their own pathtags and we suggest you contact Ozglory Designs.

Don’t forget if you are designing your own Pathtag remember to add the Geocaching Victoria tag back (which helps fund events like this Mega).

Pathtag Design Competition

Ok – so we know there are lots of budding Pathtag designers out there so we are asking for your help. At each Victorian Mega thus far participants have received a FREE event pathtag (different to those above). This year we are throwing it open to attendees to design this FREE event pathtag. The winner will receive a full set of the above 5 official St Arnaud Event 2019 pathtags.

The competition is now open and will close at midnight on Sunday February 10th. That means you have over a month to get designing. Send your “winning” design to gemmasiemensma@gmail.com with St Arnaud Event Pathtag Competition as the subject line.

Lead Up Events

The Victorian MEGA lead up events are back! We know people like prizes so we encourage you to attend as many events as possible as each event you attend will give you up to 6 raffle tickets for a special prize that might just have your name on it? This special Lead Up raffle will be drawn on the Saturday night event of the Mega – so make sure you attend as you need to be there to claim your prize. And who knows… the prize might consist of an illusive “unobtainium”…
