3 Days To Go…

Three days to go.

So, what do you need to know?

Well, the MEGA isn’t the only event happening over the weekend.  Make sure you don’t miss out on the following geocaching events nearby…

GC7WZXT – The Parkville Friday Night Bowls event is being held at The Flemington and Kensington Bowls club on the Friday night before the MEGA.  This is a chance for a meal, a social drink and catch up and maybe some barefoot bowls.  There are a couple of rinks booked so this is a great chance to catch up with others who are in town.  Already has 82 Will Attends so it promises to be a descent sized gathering!

GC7Z3FG – Vision 2020 is a gathering organized by the GeoVenture2020 crew in nearby Brunswick.  Come along and find out about their exciting plans!

GC7QBMC – The Parkville Saturday Night BBQ – This is the big one (well except for the MEGA of course).  A free feed of beef rolls is available to all those who have logged their Will Attend for this one (i.e. you need to log your Will Attend to this event, not just the MEGA to get the free food).  The Saturday night BBQ is a great tradition that we have had at our MEGAs and this will be no different.  With some prizes, awards and milestones to be read out and other speeches, this is always an entertaining event.  Don’t forget to bring a chair!

GA13128 – Parkville GA Clans Catch Up – For the Geocaching Australia players out there, this ones for you!  Organized by Kittykatch during the Saturday night BBQ festivities.

GC7XY22 – GIFF and Farewell to Parkville Event.  This is the final event for the weekend and this is where many of the prizes won over the weekend will be awarded including the coveted FTF prize.  Yes, that’s right you could be the FTF for the whole 2018 MEGA event!  All you need to do is go into the raffle for your chance to win.  Tickets for the FTF raffle are available from the registration area and all proceeds are being donated to our charity this year which is Ronald McDonald House in Parkville, so it’s a worthwhile cause too.  At this event, you can hear some presentations from representatives of the next major geocaching events to be held in Australia as well as the announcement of the location of the 2019 Victorian MEGA.  Followed by a GIFF showing, this is a great event to attend also.

Please note, we did have a CITO published, but due to circumstances beyond our control, this had to be cancelled.

Thank You

As per usual, we would like to thank our Major Sponsors. Without their ongoing support, big events like this would not be able to take place.

Saturday Night BBQ and Accommodation

Saturday Night BBQ & Festivities

The Saturday Night BBQ will be a little different this year. We will be providing a smoked beef and Gravy roll free to those that have logged a “Will Attend” on both the Saturday Night BBQ event and of course the Parkville Mega Event. This is important so we know numbers for catering.

Every attendee will be given a wrist band. That wrist band will entitle you to ONE free beef and gravy roll, sponsored by Geocaching Victoria. Aside from this, our Geocaching Victoria Oxfam Teams will be running a fundraising BBQ for sausages and onions in bread and will also have drinks on sale. These will be $2.50 per sausage and $2 per drink. The Oxfam teams will have donation boxes available on the night, so bring along your appetite and your spare change.

We have four teams of 4 people competing in the 2019 Oxfam Trailwalker in March, walking 100km from Emerald, meandering through the densely forested Dandenong Ranges to Lilydale and then following a long and winding picturesque Yarra Trail, through to Fairfield.

And most importantly don’t forget to BYO Chair on Saturday night so you can sit back and enjoy watching the TREASURE MOVIE in comfort!

To those Vegetarians, Vegans or other dietary requirements, sorry but you will need to provide your own dinners as we simply don’t have the resources to supply separate meals for you.

Accommodation…

Are you staying at Urban camp during the Mega? Don’t forget a couple of key items you will need…

  1. A sleeping Bag, doona or sheets.
  2. Pillow case (pillows are provided).
  3. Towels

If you are staying at Urban Camp, you can check in from 3pm on Friday 16th November.

Please note that Urban Camp does not permit the use of aerosols anywhere in the building and this includes deodorants. This is because of their very sensitive smoke detectors which trigger the fire alarm. If the fire alarm goes off this automatically triggers a call out and you will be billed the $2000 call out fee. So just bring roll on, or go outside.

Also please note, their is no cooking facilities at Urban Camp. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants close by. Food in the form of a sausage sizzle will be available all day Saturday and Sunday at the MEGA site. There is an event nearby at the local Bowls Club on the Friday night and there is a free BBQ at the MEGA site on the Saturday night. There will also be a discount voucher in the registration bags for the two local McDonalds as well.

Info for Volunteers

Emails have gone out today to all volunteers who have put their hand up for the Parkville Event. It contains a link to a google doc showing all tasks and assigned times.
If you don’t get that email (and it hasn’t gone to your ‘spam’ folder) then email me at stevecody@gmail.com, and we’ll sort something out.

If you want to help, but don’t want to go through formally volunteering, we would still be happy for any spare hands – especially for the Friday evening set-up, and the Sunday afternoon pack-up.

Either email stevecody@gmail.com, or just drop by the Registration desk, introduce yourself and ask if help is needed anywhere.

Upload your selfies!

So, the Parkville Event 2018 has made it to 425 Will Attends. Which leads us on to our next announcement. As always, attendees of our MEGAs get an event bag absolutely free of charge which is full of all sorts of goodies. But, due to logistics and because we don’t run an official registration process, only the first 500 teams who log their Will Attend will receive an event bag. This doesn’t mean that if you haven’t logged a Will Attend that you can’t come of course, you are more than welcome to come along still, but it does mean that you may not get one of these really cool Event Bags.

As we have mentioned previously inside the event bag will be entries to many of the games and activities that will be going on over the weekend as well as the information brochure that has all the details of everything that is happening. Plus (and this is the new bit that hasn’t been announced before), there will be a super cool, uniquely logoed item inside the event bag that you are encouraged to wear over the weekend. And to add more incentive to wear this fantastic item (notice we are keeping the actual item a secret?), you are encouraged to take some selfies wearing this item and submit it to your favourite social media using #parkville2018. The winners of the best photos will win a very cool SSSAFE snake bite kit, provided to us from our very good friends and new sponsor SSSAFE.
