Oxfam 2019 and Geocaching Victoria

pic1Geocaching Victoria now has a fine tradition of fielding a number of walking teams each year for the Melbourne Oxfam Trailwalker event.  Geocaching Victoria has big plans for Oxfam in 2019 and we’d like to get as many geocachers on board in whatever capacity to help us achieve these plans.  So this year we are not only calling on walkers for the 100 kilometre event, but also the shorter 50 kilometre event too.  Also, if even the 50 kilometre event seems too daunting for you, we also need people to man the many support crews which help these walkers achieve these goals.

12998459_812254620200_4528267492713754683_nGeocaching Victoria would like to thank all the previous walkers and support crew over the past few years.  The Geocaching Victoria Oxfam Community is a very special entity that has continued to grow in strength and many long lasting friendships have been born through the hardships on the trail and from the amazing support delivered by the support crews.  We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2019.

Geocaching Victoria and Oxfam Trailwalker 2018

pic2Once again, Geocaching Victoria was immensely proud to be involved with the Oxfam Trailwalker charity walk this weekend.  Three teams signed up to complete the gruelling 100 kilometre course, however due to circumstances beyond their control one team had to pull out before they even began.  That left two teams of four people left to take on this physical, mental and emotional challenge and what a challenge it was.  With Melbourne putting on weather extremes of 30 degree heat to pouring rain with lightning and thunder during the course and at the end, damaging winds. The entire course definitely tested each and every one of the walkers.

pic4But we are proud to say that 7 of the 8 walkers who started the event made it all the way to the finish, and more importantly we raised nearly $5000 for the very important Oxfam Charity in the process.  It was wonderful to see the representation that geocachers had, not just in the official Geocaching Victoria teams, but there were geocachers spotted in many other teams out on the course as well.  Geocachers were also out there running support for not just the official Geocaching Victoria teams, but also other teams entered in to the event and there were even a number of geocachers spotted volunteering their time at checkpoints and as Trail-Marshalls out on the track.

We are proud of our representation in this very worthwhile charity event, we are proud of the geocachers that give up their time to walk, support or volunteer for this cause and we look forward to a continuing involvement in the Melbourne Oxfam Charity Walk in the years to come.

Well done everybody!

3 weeks to Oxfam

fern oxfam yellow TEXT-01It’s just three short weeks now until three teams from Geocaching Victoria take on the gruelling 100 kilometre Oxfam Trailwalker challenge.  They do this to raise much needed funds for the Oxfam charity.  You can help support these teams by purchasing one of the beautiful, specially minted Oxfam Charity Coins.  All proceeds from the sales of these coins go directly to the fund raising effort of the three Geocaching Victoria teams.  Make sure you pre-purchase your coins now to not only secure yourself one very nice geocoin, but to also help these guys achieve their fund raising goals.  Follow this link to purchase one of these beautiful coins.

Oxfam Trailwalker & Geocaching Victoria

Did you know that there are three teams from Geocaching Victoria in this year’s Oxfam Trailwalker raising important funds for this very important cause?

The first team consists of Karen (carkisser), Michelle (Team Smokey Bear) and Donna and Erica (Jaktembo).  The second team is Andrew (Happy Pants), Ross (The Welder), Michael (Buhfuhguh) and Jess (teammoss5).  The third team is James (Zeus, Hera & Kids), Freuke, Darren (Burge) and Paul (waferthin).  These twelve guys will each walk the 100 kilometres of the course with their teams to help raise these funds (and probably find some geocaches along the way).

fern oxfam yellow TEXT-01You can help support these teams by buying this specially minted geocoin.  Geocaching Victoria is covering all of the productions costs of this coin, so every dollar spent on these coins goes straight to the teams raising funds for Oxfam.  The coin is hardened enamel and comes with its own unique tracking code.  It depicts our little mascot, Fern, out on the trail training for Oxfam.  You can purchase one of these coins for only $25 by following this link.  Pick up is available at The Parkville Event 2018 MEGA, or there are postage options available too.

Or, you can donate to any one of the teams directly, or to anyone of the walkers in particular, by following the links to their team pages provided below.

Team 1 – Karen (carkisser), Michelle (Team Smokey Bear), Donna and Erica (Jaktembo)

Team 2 – Ross (The Welder), Andrew (Happy Pants), Michael (Buhfuhguh) and Jess (teammoss5)

Team 3 – James (Zeus, Hera and kids), Darren (Burge), Freuke, Paul (waferthin)

Geocaching Victoria would like to thank not only these 12 people for representing the geocaching community at the Oxfam Trailwalker again, but also the other geocachers and partners of geocachers who have volunteered to man the massive support crew that helps see these guys complete this gruelling course.  Well done to you all.
