Meet the Reviewers Session

As things gear up for the Parkville MEGA, which is now less than three weeks away, we look towards one of our most popular workshops over the weekend, and that is the “Meet the Reviewers” session which will be happening between 12pm and 2pm on the Sunday afternoon at Urban Camp, the MEGA location.  We have reviewers attending from around Australia and a couple from Europe too.  We also have some Lackeys visiting us and they will all be gathering together at this session to answer your questions, so it promises to be quite an exciting one.

To help this session run as smoothly as possible in the time available, we ask that questions be kept as general as possible.  No specific caches, no specific cache owners, no specific instances.  If your question is too specific, rather than using extra time trying to reword your question, they will just move on to the next question. Reviewers are cachers, just like you; people who give up their personal time to help with the smooth running of this past-time and they are again giving up their own time at the MEGA to appear at this session.  Keeping all of that in mind, we ask that the questioning be kept civilised, as always.

Do you have a burning question that you want answered? For the best chance of getting the answers, please email them to the Victorian Reviewer, Bunjil, at the following address bunjil.reviewer@gmail.com with the subject “Reviewer Session Question”. Emailed questions will be collated and read out at the information session and answered by the panel.  Another reminder: keep your questions general in nature.

During this session, the German Reviewers who will be attending, Knaecke und Brot will be running a quiz for all those who turn up.  They have kindly donated their own geocoins to give away as prizes, so this reviewers session is one not to be missed.

To recap: Email your questions to Bunjil as above, be at the Meet The Reviewers session between 12pm and 2pm on the Sunday and join in the quiz 😊

Getting Close Now!

Its now less than a month until the MEGA event in Parkville so we thought this would be a great opportunity to recap on the many activities that are happening over the MEGA weekend and all the different ways there will be to win some of the amazing prizes that are on offer.

  • The winner of the points game for who has attended the lead up events will be announced at the closing ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The winner will receive an unobtanium coin and a free 12-month premium membership. There are some runner up prizes on offer too.
  • In the event bag, which is available at the registration desk and is free to everyone who has logged a “Will Attend”, you will find an entry into the Icy Pole Stick game. Take your Icy Pole stick out on to the expanse of lawn across the road from the MEGA site. There is a ‘secret location’ that can be found by the closest icy pole stick. Place your icy pole stick where you think the secret location is. On the Sunday afternoon all the guesses will be measured up and at the closing ceremony the winner will be announced. The closest to the pin will win an unobtanium coin and a 12-month premium membership.
  • On the Saturday night we are having our traditional BBQ, see GC7QBMC. During the night there will be a BINGO card being distributed which will have all sorts of geocaching achievements listed on it. Your job is to find people who have made these achievements and get them to sign their name in one box. When you have a full BINGO card, place it in the entry box. First complete entry to be drawn out will win an unobtanium coin and a 12-month premium membership.
  • Also, in the event bag you will find a letter box stamp card. Your job is to find the 5 letterbox caches in the Parkville series of letterboxes (GC7G5MJ, GC7G01H, GC7FWXX, GC7FWZN & GC7FRRC) and stamp the card with the stamp from each letterbox. Return your card to the admin desk and submit it. At the closing ceremony the first complete entry drawn will be the winner of an unobtanium geocoin and a free 12-month premium membership.

Limited Edition Parkville Geocoin.

Limited EditionThe limited edition Parkville 2018 geocoin is a beautiful coin.  It is a shaped coin which depicts our mascot Fern in front of the zoo with all her zoo friends from all over the world.  It is a full 2 inches wide, made from hardened enamel colours and comes complete with tracking code etched into the side.  This is wonderful commemorative coin that will be a must have for any collector or attendee of the Parkville Event. It is a limited edition coin with only 100 in production there is only limited stock available.
Limited Edition Zoom

Because the coin is so large, the detail that you can make out on this amazing coin is astounding.

Limited Edition Back

Plus, flip the coin over and rotate it 90 degrees and you will see another stunning design on the back as well.  Again, our mascot Fern, now dressed as a tram driver, standing in Royal Park with an iconic Melbourne tram behind her and in the background is the unmistakable Melbourne skyline.

Limited Edition Back Zoom

Again, because of the size of this coin, the level of detail is amazing.  This really is a truly spectacular geocoin, available for $40, you can still purchase these from our webstore by following this link.

Standard Edition Geocoin.

Standard Edition

This is the standard edition, round geocoin for The Parkville Event 2018.  It is a very colourful coin that also depicts our mascot Fern, but this time she is driving an iconic Melbourne tram and she is joined by her local friends, a platypus, koala and a kangaroo.  Also in hardened enamel colours with tracking code etched into the side, this is a great geocoin for a very affordable price.

Standard Edition Zoom

Also, not a tiny coin, the level of detail on this coin is almost as good as the Limited Edition version.

New Back

The back of our new round coins is our new logo.  You can purchase the standard edition geocoin from our webstore for only $16, by following this link.

Unobtanium Coin

UnobtaniumThis one is as always, not for sale.  The unobtanium coin is different from our past MEGAs.  It is essentially the same as the Limited Edition geocoin, but we have added glitter to highlight.  The only way to get your hands on one of these is through the many games and activities that will be being run over the MEGA weekend.

The first one went well, so later this month, we are doing it again. If you find yourself in the Brunswick area on October 28th, stop in and buy a sausage in bread to support Geocaching Victoria and the Parkville Mega. If you have some more time on your hands and are able to help for a couple of hours, just send us an email to info@geocachingvictoria.com.au and let us know when you are available. There will be a Geocaching event GC7WFTH too.

Parkville LAB caches.

One of the highlights from our previous MEGA at Alexandra was the very clever selection of LAB caches that were presented.  So much so, that GCHQ have this year awarded us with not just 1 LAB cache adventure of 10 LAB caches, but 2!  That means there will be a total of 20 LAB caches available for people to find at The Parkville Event 2018.  How exciting!

A group of people have been working on various cool ideas for LAB caches for Parkville over the last few months and one of those we can reveal today is none other than the famous Roymerc, from the Denmark area of Western Australia.  If you haven’t heard of Roymerc, or his caches, please check them out.  If you have, then we are figuring that you will be excited as us to see what he can produce as a LAB cache for the Parkville MEGA.
